Who is Captain Barry Schultz?

"2011" marks the 11th year I've been guiding fisherman to Trophy Fish, while teaching them to catch fish, I also show them a great day on the water. But, don't let that fool you, I have over 30 years experience fishing and hunting on Lake Erie, Lake Ontario & the Niagara River as well as across NY state. Having grown up here in western NY, I've fished here since I was a boy with my dad and grandfather as well as working as First Mate for 4 years before I started my own business. I bought my first boat in 1986 and have been fishing 100+ days annually ever since! Over the years, I've learned what it takes to guarantee a great day on the water, it's more than just catching fish, but that does help. Give Schultz Sportfishing a try by wetting a line with us and you'll be Hooked! Many of my repeat customers can attest to this, after fishing with me annually for years!
I've also been a successful Tournament Angler over the years: Winning the first annual Make-A-Wish Lake Erie Challenge/Millennium Bassmasters Tournament on May 19th, 2001 and the annual Wagon Wheel Smallmouth Bass Tournament on June 15th, 2002. Finishing 2nd in the US Anglers Choice Northeast Team Regional Championships on Lake Erie with partner, Joe Fonzi on October 14th & 15th, 2005.  But missing out on winning by .02 of a pound, we still took home a brand new Bass Cat Pantera Classic Boat package with a 200 Mercury on it. I placed 26th as a Non-Boater in the Citgo Bassmasters Northern Open (Lake Erie) on September 9-11th, 2003, finished 51st as a Pro in the Everstart Northern Open (Lake Erie) on August 25-28th, 2004 and finished 49th as a Non-Boater in the
BASS Elite Series Tournament on July 31st thru August 3rd, 2008. I've also had numerous Top 10 finishes in some local tournament trails as well.

I'm a Proud Member of: BASS,  FLW Outdoors,  LOTSA,  Niagara River Anglers,  Ducks Unlimited, NRA,  Wildlife Forever,  North American Fishing Club,  North American Hunting Club and on the Skeeter/Yamaha Pro Team. As well as affiliated with Bass Pro Shops, Berkley, Fenwick, ABU Garcia, Humminbird, Pro-Cure Scents, Seaguar  and Owner Hooks.

What is Provided?

We fish out a brand new, fully rigged 2011 Skeeter WX1900 powered by a 200 Yamaha 4 stroke that is a Deep-V Pro Style Walleye boat that handles what Lake Erie throws at you. A Minn Kota 80PD Trolling motor with I-Pilot, Humminbird Electronics: 997cSI, 987cSI & 597ci HD units help put and keep you on fish. A Uniden Marine Radio and a Cell Phone are onboard as well as being Coast Guard compliant for your safety.  All bait and top quality tackle is provided as well as fish cleaning for Walleye, Salmon & Trout. Bass trips are Catch & Release while  with Yellow Perch, you can keep them but you have to clean them or we have to come in early to allow for their cleaning time as we catch 50-150 depending on the day.  Instruction and assistance are always included as well  as directions to launches, hotels, bait & tackle shops or license locations. References are also available upon request.

What should I bring?

You need a valid NY State Fishing License, a camera (I like to practice CPR: Catch, Photograph & Release!), sunglasses, sunscreen, a hat, appropriate clothing for predicted weather (it's always a good idea to have rain gear!), seasickness medicine (if needed, take before you get on the boat!), a small cooler with drinks & snacks for the day. If you have a favorite rod & reel bring it along too, although I supply all needed tackle. But, just let me know if your bringing more than a couple so I can take a few off the boat to make room as I usually have 14-18 rods onboard most of the time.
It's also highly recommended to get a Canadian Fishing license when fishing for King Salmon & Steelhead on the Niagara River to take advantage of all the fish holding drifts. Some days the Canadian side is a lot better and you don't want to watch every body else pounding them over there and not be able to join in the fun!

You can get an Ontario (Canadian) Fishing License by calling : 1-800-667-1940 (usually take 3-4 weeks thru the mail) or you can go into Canada to any Canadian Tire store but you will need a passport or enhanced drivers license to cross the border (you don't need a passport to fish Canadian water as long as you don't set foot on Canadian soil)

From the Lewiston Queenston Bridge: the closest Canadian Tire is at 3770 Montrose Rd, Niagara Fall, Ontario  phone: 1-905-354-3848

From the Rainbow Bridge: the closest Canadian Tire is at 6840 McLeod Rd, Niagara Falls. Ontario  phone: 1-905-358-0161

From the Peace Bridge: the closest Canadian Tire is at 240 Garrison Rd, Fort Erie, Ontario   phone:  1-905-871-1564

You can get a NY Fishing License at any Walmart, Kmart or Town Hall in NY State, at Gander Mountain 880 Young St, Tonawanda, NY (just off the 290) phone: 1-716-743-2300 or at Big Catch Bait & Tackle

When is the Best Fishing?

Smallmouth Bass: May, June, September & October for Monster Trophy Smallies on Lake Erie when June thru September is better for numbers with a few Hogs mixed in.

King Salmon: September & October on the Niagara River.

Walleye: Late June thru September on Lake Erie for lots of great eaters or December thru March on the Niagara River for a shot at a Monster 10#+ Eye!

Steelhead, Lake & Brown Trout: November thru May on the Niagara River.

Yellow Perch: Late April thru June is best but we can catch all summer into October.

Guided Duck Hunts: Late December into early January depending when they set the exact season dates on the Niagara River, Niagara Bar & Lake Ontario.

What Else is there to Do?
